Overview

Stoara is a personal Stoic reflection app. We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how it is handled.

Data Stored on Your Device

The following data is stored locally on your device only using AsyncStorage and the device filesystem. None of this data is uploaded to our servers or shared with third parties:

• Your reflection journal entries (text and guided answers)
• AI mentor responses to your reflections
• Voice recordings you create during reflection sessions
• AI-generated voice audio files saved to your device
• Bookmarked quotes
• App settings (language, theme, voice preference, notification time)
• Your first name (optional, used only for the greeting)

Data Sent to Our Server

When you use the AI reflection or voice features, the following is sent to our API server for processing only. Nothing is stored on our server after the request completes:

• Reflection text: Sent to generate an AI mentor response via xAI Grok. Not stored after processing.
• Voice recordings: Sent to xAI for speech-to-text transcription. Not stored after processing.
• Mentor response text: Sent to xAI for text-to-speech synthesis. The resulting audio is returned and saved on your device only.

Our server does not log, store, or retain any of this content beyond the duration of the request.

No User Accounts

Stoara does not require you to create an account. We do not collect your name, email address, or any personally identifiable information. There is no login and no profile stored on any server.

Third-Party Services

• xAI (Grok): Used for AI mentor responses, voice transcription, and voice synthesis. xAI's own privacy policy applies to data processed through their API.
• RevenueCat: Used to manage in-app subscriptions. RevenueCat may collect anonymised purchase and subscription data. See RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.
• Apple: In-app purchases are processed by Apple. Apple's privacy policy applies.

Microphone Access

Stoara requests microphone access solely to allow you to record voice reflections. Recordings are processed locally and, if transcription is requested, sent securely to our API. We never access your microphone in the background.

Notifications

If you enable daily reminders, Stoara schedules a local notification on your device. No data is transmitted to our servers for this feature. You can disable notifications at any time in iOS Settings.

Children

Stoara is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top will reflect any changes. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
